Winning restaurant hosts Learning Journey for APSN Tanglin School students

Singapore, 9 February 2015 – Foodies of Singapore have voted! After three weeks of intense competition in the Eat-lections, 26 food and beverage (F&B) establishments have been crowned by the public, in HungryGoWhere’s first-ever awards.

Over 40,000 votes were casted for Singapore’s favourite restaurants, hawkers and bars, with the “Best Restaurant” and “Best Hawker” categories being the most hotly contested and receiving the most nominations.

Mr Matthew Whittingham, HungryGoWhere’s CEO, said: “HungryGoWhere’s Eat-lections is about recognising the best of food and drink establishments in Singapore. With Singaporeans being so passionate about their food, it was no wonder we garnered over 250,000 page views in three weeks. We hope to continue fuelling this passion through our features on gourmet finds and foodie reviews on Singapore’s best known online destination for all things food-related.”

Wah Lok Cantonese emerged from a close fight to win the “Best Chinese Restaurant” by 12 votes. Similarly, the “Best Hawker” category attracted intense competition with Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodles snatching the crown by a 13-vote margin.

To celebrate its win as “Most Booked Restaurant”, House Restaurant at Dempsey Road hosted 20 students from APSN Tanglin School – a beneficiary of the Singtel Touching Lives Fund – on a Learning Journey. The students learned to bake cookies and went on a tour of the Dempsey area to appreciate the history behind the culinary hub. They also had the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant’s specialties over lunch.

Mrs Liza Ow, Principal of APSN Tanglin School, said: “We are very grateful to HungryGoWhere for organising this and giving our children the chance to learn something new. Many thanks to Singtel also for always believing in the abilities of our students, and providing them with numerous meaningful experiences to build their confidence and skills.”

“We wanted to celebrate the close of HungryGoWhere’s Eat-lections with something meaningful. Having this Learning Journey with APSN Tanglin School enabled us to contribute to their school curriculum while giving the students an opportunity to appreciate the food and beverage scene in Singapore,” added Mr Whittingham.

Anxious foodies who wish to find out if their favourite dining place made the winning list can visit www.hungrygowhere.com/awards for details. The 2015 Eat-lections winners will each receive a certificate, while selected voters will be rewarded with dining vouchers at top establishments.
