Singapore, 22 September 2009 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) announced the winner of the Singtel Grid Girls Finals, which were broadcast ‘live’ on MediaCorp Channel 5 last night.
Low Shu Min, a 23-year-old Psychology student, walked away with $20,000 in cash and the chance to represent Singapore at the head of the starting grid at the night race to be held this Sunday.
Constance Lau, 18, and Cordelia Low, 20, took second and third place, winning themselves cash prizes of $7,000 and $3,000 respectively.
The 20 ladies at the pageant, hosted by Soo Kui Jien and Michelle Chia, showed their wit and ability to think on their feet as they were put through a series of question-and-answer segments. Guest hosts Adrian Pang and Gurmit Singh helped put them at ease as they were faced some rather challenging questions, some of which were formulated by their fellow grid girls.
The results were determined by a combination of viewer votes – which comprised 50 per cent of the final tally - and a panel of seven judges, which included driver/ model Hafiz Koh, Formula OneTM commentator Steve Slater.and MediaCorp artiste Jade Seah.
The hunt for the bevy of ladies who will flag off this year’s race began in April and almost 300 girls signed up to vie for one of 43 spots on the starting grid. Among these ladies, 20 were chosen to co-host the ‘Singtel Grid Girls on Tour’ television programme. This 16-episode show, which was shown on MediaCorp Channel 5 and mio TV saw the girls travelling in groups to Formula OneTM host cities like Bahrain, Melbourne and Shanghai – attending exclusive parties, meeting the drivers and going behind-the-scenes of the world’s most popular car race.
All 43 Singtel Grid Girls will be on the track on race day, guiding the drivers to their cars and adding more than a touch of glamour to the event. The Grid Girls will also be at Singtel roadshows at various shopping centres. For more details and roadshow locations, visit www.singtelrace.com.
The entire season of ‘Singtel Grid Girls on Tour’ is available on-demand free-of-charge to all mio TV customers.
