Optus D1 Satellite scheduled for launch

Sydney, 19 July 2006 - Optus confirmed today the acceptance of the D1 satellite from satellite manufacturer, Orbital Sciences Corporation in Dulles, Virginia USA.

The Optus D1 satellite is scheduled to be launched in September 2006* from the Guiana SpaceCentre in Kourou, French Guiana via an Ariane 5 launcher.
 
The Optus D1 Satellite is the first of the D-series to be launched. This series will provide fixedcommunication and broadcasting satellite services with geographical coverage of Australia andNew Zealand.
 
The Optus D1 satellite will replace the Optus B1 satellite.
