mio TV premiere will be telecast in dual languages – Mandarin and Cantonese on 10 January 2008 at 10.00pm
Singapore, 28 December 2007 - Singtel announced today that mio TV will have a “Same Day Premiere” for Eason Chan’s new movie – “The Pye-Dog” on 10 January 2008, 10.00pm where mio TV customers can get to watch the movie premiere at home (Mei Ah Movies Channel - Channel 50) on the same day that the movie opens in Singapore cinemas. For the first time ever, mio TV customers will have the option to watch a movie premiere ”live” at home in either Mandarin or Cantonese language, with English and Chinese subtitles.
“Mei Ah Movies Channel on mio TV is the only channel where our customers who are fans of Hong Kong movies can watch them in Cantonese. Our customers now have the opportunity for the first time ever to watch a movie premiere ‘live’ at home with the option to choose either Mandarin or Cantonese language. We see a huge potential to increase pay-TV penetration in Singapore by focusing on exclusive tie-ups with partners like Mei Ah where we offer “Same Day Premieres” to cater to an audience that prefers to watch movies at home,” said Mr Low Ka Hoe, Singtel's Director of mio TV and Content.
Mei Ah Movies Channel is Singapore ’s first Cantonese movie channel that features Cantonese-only content between noon and midnight. There are plans to premiere more movies simultaneously on mio TV and in the cinemas - a ’world first’ for mio TV subscribers!
Mei Ah Movies Channel currently broadcasts 24 hours a day and features new mega movies each month, such as "Happy Birthday" (starring Louis Koo, Rene Liu) and "Death Note Part 1 & 2". Upcoming movies on Mei Ah Movies Channel include “Warlords”, helmed by Andy Lau, Jet Li and Takeshi Kaneshiro, and John Woo’s highly anticipated movie “Red Cliff” starring Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Chang Chen.

Starring Eason Chan, Gia Lin, Eric Tsang and George Lam, “The Pye-Dog” is a suspense drama where Dui (Eason Chan), a janitor at school gets to know Wang (Wen Jun Hui) a boy who was orphaned at a young age and has taken a vow of silence as a result of his childhood experience. The two of them meet Miss Cheung (Gia Lin), a substitute teacher at school and the three form a bond. The story unravels as Dui and Miss Cheung reveal their true identities as a Yakuza and a bodyguard respectively. Dui is on a mission by his triad leader (Eric Tsang) to kidnap Wang while Miss Cheung is an undercover sniper sent by Wang’s father (George Lam) to protect his son. “The Pye-Dog” is written and directed by Derek Kwok Chi-kin, and features appearances from Loletta Lee and Shaw Brothers veteran Siu Yam-Yam.
With mio TV’s Digital Video Recording (DVR) subscription, customers can also enjoy the movie premiere “The Pye Dog” ‘live’ in the comfort of their homes. The hard disk on the mio TV set-up box with DVR feature will allow mio TV subscribers the option to “pause” and/or “rewind” to the time of channel access without having to miss a single moment of the movie. Following the one-time only TV premiere of “The Pye-Dog” mio TV Channel 50 on 10 January, Mei Ah Movies Channel will officially start airing “The Pye-Dog” on mio TV from 07 February 2008 onwards.
