Meg@POP service streamlines communication and application needs on a converged Internet Protocol platform
Singapore, 11 October 2006 -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel), Asia’s leading communications group, has won a multi-year contract from Sentosa Leisure Group to provide one-stop managed services over a wired and wireless Internet Protocol-Virtual Private Network (IP-VPN) on the island.
Singapore’s premier island resort getaway will be one step closer to its vision of an intelligent island – where guests and residents can look forward to seamless, efficient and personalised services integrated into the Sentosa leisure lifestyle.
Strategic sites on the island where most tourism activities take place will be linked up via Singtel Meg@POP
1 and WiFi solution.
Singtel, together with its wholly owned subsidiary NCS, is the only telco among the seven bidders to propose a cost efficient network solution that can effectively support and meet the service levels of Sentosa’s voice, data and video application needs.
Sentosa currently uses Meg@POP for corporate applications such as Intranet access for its 1,200 employees, data centre, ticketing systems at the new Sentosa Express stations and visitor attractions, as well as point-of-sale terminals at retail outlets.
Sentosa will also be looking at using the network to run real-time video streaming of events.
Mr Darrell Metzger, Sentosa’s CEO, said: “Singtel’s experience, coverage and excellent customer support were the deciding factors for their winning the contract.
Meg@POP is flexible in allowing us to upgrade to our desired bandwidth as and when we need to. This will greatly enhance the integration of our various processes and elevate our service delivery to a higher platform, with improved levels of business efficiencies.
“Furthermore, the infrastructure will enable Sentosa and its partners to offer exciting new applications like facilitating guests at remote locations unparalleled connectivity to the Internet. By investing in infrastructure like this to cater to the future needs of the sophisticated international traveller, the possible new sources of revenue are endless.”
Mr Bill Chang, Singtel’s Executive Vice President for Business, said: “This project is a very encouraging start towards a strategic partnership between Sentosa and Singtel.
We are very pleased to offer a one-stop managed service and cost-effective integrated solutions, built over a fully converged IP platform, that meet Sentosa’s communication needs. Our unique proposal of a fully scalable, hybrid wired and wireless solution is ideal for Sentosa’s terrain and its expansion needs.
“Singtel looks forward to playing an active role to support Singapore’s infocomm thrust to enhance the growth and competitiveness in the tourism, hospitality and retail sectors.”
