Singapore, 16 May 2014 – Singapore fans emerged the ultimate winners as Manchester football rivals, Rio Ferdinand and Sergio Agüero went head-to-head at the highly-anticipated SG Game On! Challenge organised by Singtel and Samsung.

In a closely fought contest, Ferdinand narrowly edged-out Agüero in the unique two-day challenge.

SG Game On! kicked off with the Ultimate Selfie Challenge on Thursday, where Ferdinand and Agüero captured selfies using the new Samsung GALAXY S5 LTE while taking part in popular local activities. These included speaking Singlish on national radio, practising Tai Chi, sampling local hawker delights and showing off their awesome ball skills. Ferdinand won the challenge with the most retweets of his selfies on Twitter.

The second day began with a surprise for special needs children at the APSN Tanglin School. The school is a beneficiary of the Singtel Touching Lives Fund, a corporate philanthropy programme which helps disadvantaged children and young people with special needs. The star-struck students received tips from the players who then coached them in a fun-filled eleven-a-side match.

In a thrilling finale to the two-day challenge, fans teamed up with Ferdinand and Agüero in a series of football-themed challenges at an outdoor carnival at Chevron House. This included a football trivia quiz, video console football game and mini penalty shoot-out. The overall result of this activity was a draw.

Johan Buse, Singtel’s Vice President of Consumer Marketing, said: “As the home of football, Singtel is always trying to find new ways to excite fans and bring them closer to the action. Rio and Sergio are heroes to many football fans in Singapore. So we are delighted to give them a chance not only to meet them in person, but to also take selfies with them and get their autographs.”

Ferdinand said: “Throughout my career I have always loved meeting fans from around the world. Thanks to Singtel and Samsung, I got to meet Singapore fans, who are incredibly passionate about the game. I really enjoyed getting to experience Singapore’s unique culture over the two days and competing with Kun in interesting activities off the pitch.”

Agüero said: “This is my first time in Singapore and I've fallen in love with its football-mad people, culture and food - especially durians! Through the various challenges, I hope the fans got to see a different side of me. Singtel and Samsung have done a great job in allowing me to reach out to my fans here in Singapore. Thank you for your support and I hope to be back here again soon.”
