This year, Singtel has teamed up with race promoter, Singapore GP to present three roadshows, featuring race-inspired carnival activities, as well as Singapore’s first electric go-kart race in the lead up to the Singapore Grand Prix this September. The winner of the go-kart challenge will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the Formula 1™ race drivers.
The roadshows will be held at popular outdoor locations, with the first taking place at Bishan Open-Green, followed by Jurong Central Park and lastly, at East Coast Park. This year’s fun-filled carnival-style activities will provide a refreshing experience for everyone.
“As we have been doing the past few years, we invite everyone to feel the race action both on and off the track during this Formula 1™ season. This year, Singtel is partnering with Singapore GP to bring even more fun and exciting race-inspired experiences to delight and amaze Singaporeans,” said Singtel’s Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Singapore, Mr Yuen Kuan Moon.
In the spirit of Singtel’s "F1™ for Everyone" initiative this year, 30 children from the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) Tanglin School, a beneficiary of Singtel's Touching Lives Fund, will be among the first in Singapore to preview the roadshow with the exciting electric go-kart experience and carnival activities.
Mr Yuen said, “By working closely with our beneficiaries under Singtel’s Touching Lives Fund, we hope to bring the excitement of Formula 1™ to everyone, including these children with special needs, so they too can feel the thrill of the race and have some fun.”
Singapore’s First Ever Electric Go-karting Race
For the first time in go-kart history in Singapore, the roadshows will feature electric go- karts which run on battery instead of petrol for a safer, quieter and more environmentally-friendly experience.
A public contest where participants take part in a five-lap, time-based race will be held at the three roadshows. Based on their best-of-five lap timings, the top three drivers from each roadshow will race each other at the Grand Finals at the final roadshow.
The eventual winner will receive a pair of passes to an exclusive autograph session to meet the Formula 1™ drivers in person. Nine finalists will win a pair of Grandstand tickets to catch the Singapore Grand Prix and other race merchandise.
To ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all participants, the Singapore Motor Sports Association (SMSA), the governing body for motor sports in Singapore, will act as the safety regulators for the time-based race.
