Singapore, 17 October 2008 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) announced that it will be the first in Asia after Taiwan to offer the newest 3.75G ASUS Netbook with High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) capability to its mobile broadband customers.

 

Singtel’s exclusive agreement with ASUS allows customers to enjoy high-speed Internet access anywhere using the lightweight ASUS Eee PC ^TM 901 with 3.75G capability. 

 

Mr Wong Soon Nam, Singtel’s Vice President of Consumer Marketing, said: “We are pleased to partner ASUS to offer the latest Eee PC ^TM to our customers.  With its 3.75G capabilities and power-packed features, and fully supported on our network, it is the ideal companion for people on the move and makes borderless computing a reality.”

 

From tomorrow, Singtel’s HSPA network will allow its  customers to enjoy Internet surfing at even higher broadband speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps downlink and 1.5 Mbps uplink in selected areas* (up from the previous speeds of 3.6Mbps and 384kbps respectively). The enhancement will be completed island-wide within the next 18 months.

 

Existing Singtel’s Broadband on Mobile subscribers will enjoy higher uplink speeds at no additional cost.  Customers on 2000 and 3600 plans will automatically enjoy uplink speeds of up to 512 Kbps and up to 1 Mbps respectively (up from 384 Kbps previously for both plans).
