Formula OneTM title sponsorship activities unveiled
Singapore, 22 April 2008 -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) today unveiled one of two custom-built simulators that will allow everyone to experience the adrenaline rush of being in the driver’s seat of a Formula OneTM car.
The Singtel Ultimate Race replicates the night race in great detail, and drivers get the added thrill of whizzing past iconic Singapore landmarks such as the Esplanade and City Hall.
As the cars are mounted on motion-enabled platforms, drivers experience every thrilling hairpin turn, every heart-pounding skid, brake and crash while zooming down the actualSingapore street circuit at breakneck speeds.
The first simulator will be located at the telco’s headquarters at Comcentre, while the second car will make its rounds around the island. Singtel is offering this rare experience absolutely free-of-charge.
Singtel Group CEO Ms Chua Sock Koong said: “For decades Singtel has been bringing innovative new services and products to our customers and being title sponsor for the Formula One
TM is no different.
We want to bring the best Formula OneTM experience to everyone in Singapore.”
The simulators are designed by Ball
Racing Developments, a UK-based market leader in the design and construction of high-quality motorsport simulators that are used to train professional drivers. The innovative use of software and technology creates a realistic true-to-life experience, giving the novice driver a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience what it feels like to drive a Formula One
TM car at night on the circuit even before the professionals have a go at it in September.
Singtel also announced a host of activities that will bring the excitement of the Formula One
TM experience to Singapore in the months leading up to the world’s first night street race.
In a bid to engage everyone as Singapore gears up for the race, Singtel will create myriad opportunities for everyone to get involved in the races.
Activities such as predicting the qualifying and race winner, voting for their favourite Grid Girl and driving a racing car will ensure that everyone gets into the Formula OneTM mood.
“This is the first time Singapore is hosting a Formula One
TM race and we firmly believe that this is something that Singapore should celebrate together,” Ms Chua continued. “We are very proud to be able to help make the race relevant to everyone and help create an atmosphere of festivity and anticipation. We want to set the stage for all of Singapore to welcome the Formula One
TM teams with warmth and enthusiasm when they arrive in September.”
For those who prefer to experience the simulator in the comfort of their home, the Singtel Ultimate Race has also been transformed into a PC game and can be downloaded from our newly created website
www.singtelrace.com.
The Singtel Ultimate Race Online is available for download and play from 23 April.
From 9 May, a leaderboard will keep track of the fastest drivers and the top three will win prizes.

Singtel also announced the launch of its dedicated Formula One
TM website
www.singtelrace.com, where full details of Singtel’s title sponsorship activities are available.
The site will provide a platform for the community of F1 fans in Singapore to share information and images as well as keep their fingers on the pulse of what’s happening in the Formula One
TM scene.
There will be celebrity blogs by Jaymee Ong and Glenn Ong, a Fan Cam section where photos and videos can be uploaded and viewed, as well as race predictions and other information about the races.
Singtel Prediction Challenge
One of the many activities available on the site is the Singtel Prediction Challenge.
The game allows Singaporeans to try their hand at predicting the outcome of the 2008 Formula OneTM races, starting with the fifth race of the season in Istanbul, Turkey, and ending with the Formula OneTM Singtel Singapore Grand Prix. Starting from 9 May, participants have up to within an hour of each race to decide who they think will be the eight fastest drivers in the qualification round and race.
Points will be awarded according to the accuracy of each participant’s selections.
There will be a winner for each race and prizes for the top three players at the end of the Singapore F1 season. There will be many exciting prizes up for grabs, and the player with the highest score at the end of the 11 races will win two hours’ exclusive use of the simulator with nine other friends as well as a replica of the 2008 Formula OneTM Singtel Grand Prix Driver’s Champion Trophy. Results of each race will be posted on the leaderboard at www.singtelrace.com.
Singtel Mobile Racer
Singtel has developed a thrilling Formula One
TM race game that can be downloaded onto customers’ mobile phones. Players can purchase and customise their cars, choose to compete across three levels of difficulty and pit their driving skills against their friends or computer opponents on the Singapore circuit.
Top scorers stand to win grandstand tickets to the 2008 Formula OneTM Singtel Singapore Grand Prix.
In the first phase of the game which will be available in May, players can accumulate virtual credits through winning races.
These credits can be used to upgrade their cars or purchase new race cars for better performance.
The 3D multiplayer version of the game, which will be launched in August, will allow players to compete with real players, using ‘ghost’ technology (opponents represented by a car that uses their best recorded performance). In this version, players also accumulate credits that can be used to purchase new cars and upgrades.
Singtel Grid Girls
Formula One
TM will not be complete without the glamorous Grid Girls.
There will be 48 gorgeous Singtel Grid Girls, of which the top 20 will take part in a four-episode 30-minute reality show hosted by Glenn Ong.
The grand winner will take home $20,000 and the top three winners will lead the Grid Girls to the starting line on the day of the race.
Viewers can catch the girls and see what the panel of celebrity judges has to say about them on Channel 5 from 27 August to 17 September. The girls will also be blogging on http://www.moblog.com.sg/gridgirls to enable the public to get an insight into their thoughts and personalities.
