Singapore, 3 August 2018 – Singtel’s annual charity golf event raised a total of S$1.16 million today for Singtel Touching Lives Fund’s (STLF) beneficiaries. Golfers, including Singtel’s business partners, teed off at the Sentosa Golf Club in aid of children and youth with special needs. Singtel Charity Golf is the anchor fundraising event for STLF.

Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Chairman of STLF and CEO Consumer Singapore at Singtel, said, “Singtel has been raising funds for programmes at our adopted special education schools (SPED) to help children and youth achieve their full potential and lead meaningful lives for the last 17 years. We deeply appreciate the generous and unwavering support our business partners have extended to Singtel Charity Golf, and to our beneficiaries.”

This year's event included a ‘Drive for Charity’ contest at a designated hole. To encourage golfers to give their best shot and inspire giving at the same time, Singtel pledged to contribute S$500 for every golfer who made a drive of more than 160 to 200 metres, and S$1,000 for every golfer who managed a drive of more than 200 metres. Golfers could donate S$50 to double Singtel’s pledges to S$1,000 and S$2,000 respectively.

Dr Christopher Tay, CEO of Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN), said, “APSN would like to express our appreciation of Singtel’s unceasing efforts in the special education sector over the last decade, benefitting many children and youth directly and indirectly. We are extremely encouraged and hope to see more organisations coming forward to contribute to the cause.”

In a gesture of appreciation of Singtel’s fundraising efforts, dinner guests were treated to a band performance by musically talented students from the APSN Tanglin School after the game. In addition, students who are receiving vocational training in food and beverage at APSN Delta Senior School served drinks and the first dinner course to guests. Each guest also received a fabric collage craft piece as a gift, handmade by students and upcycled from curtains, cushion and sofa covers.

All funds raised from today’s event will go directly to STLF’s six adopted SPED – APSN Chaoyang School, APSN Delta Senior School, APSN Tanglin School, Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore School, Eden School and MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School – to cover programmes from primary, secondary and post-secondary levels as Singtel underwrites all fundraising costs.
