Singapore, 30 August 2019 – Singtel Charity Golf 2019 has raised S$1.2 million for children and youth with special needs. The annual flagship fundraising event of the Singtel Touching Lives Fund (STLF) saw over 140 golfers from Singtel and its business partners tee off at the Tanah Merah Country Club today in support of STLF’s beneficiaries of six adopted schools.

Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Chairman of STLF and CEO Consumer Singapore at Singtel, said, “Having supported special education schools since 2002, we are heartened to see the progress made in empowering children with special needs with the education and the skills needed to contribute actively to society. We are humbled and happy that we can do our part to help these children fulfil their potential and lead purposeful lives. We are deeply grateful to our business partners for their commitment and continued contributions to these efforts all these years.”

Dr Christopher Tay, Chief Executive Officer of the Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN), said “Generosity speaks of a great spirit, and Singtel’s consistent big-heartedness towards children and youth with special needs for almost two decades speaks volumes about its commitment to the community. We are truly touched and hope more organisations will embrace this kind of giving too.”

The funds raised from today’s charity golf event will cover primary, secondary and post-secondary level programmes at STLF’s six adopted schools – APSN Chaoyang School, APSN Tanglin School, APSN Delta Senior School, Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore School, Eden School and MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School. Singtel underwrites the costs of all fundraising activities and these funds will be disbursed in partnership with the Community Chest.

To show appreciation for Singtel’s efforts to raise funds, golfers and guests at a post-event dinner received ‘Gardenarium’ door gifts prepared by APSN Tanglin School’s horticulture students, who had nurtured seedlings into ‘Gardenarium’ potted plants. In addition, students from APSN Delta Senior School, who are receiving vocational training to prepare them for the food and beverage industry, served pre-dinner cocktails and the first dinner course.

As part of its sustainability strategy, Singtel is committed to making a positive impact on the communities it operates in. Its initiatives support persons with disabilities and special needs to realise their full potential and lead meaningful lives. Besides fundraising efforts through the STLF, which has raised over S$42 million since 2002, Singtel set up the Singtel Enabling Innovation Centre in 2015 to train persons with disabilities in ICT and contact centre skills to support their transition to work. Singtel is also a founding member of the Singapore Business Network on DisAbility, which helps to promote the equitable inclusion of persons with disabilities in the workplace.
