Singapore, 17 June 2013 - Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) today announced the success of onboarding the early adopters of G-Cloud, and the infrastructure is now available for whole-of-government use through its collaboration with HP. G-Cloud is the first private cloud infrastructure for the Singapore Government. It opens the way for the standardisation and sharing of computing resources and applications across all government agencies thus leading to greater agility and the lowering of IT costs. It also enables more government e-services to be delivered more quickly and securely on-demand.
Powered by Innovum, a collaboration between Singtel and HP, G-Cloud brings together innovation, technology and skills to deliver faster and more efficient services to the Singapore public sector.
Mr Bill Chang, Chief Executive Officer of Group Enterprise, Singtel said: “G-Cloud enhances the Singapore Government’s agility, productivity and cost-efficiency to deliver scalable, reliable and efficient government services on-demand. With its ability to provide an excellent platform for collaboration, G-Cloud is an integral part of the eGov2015 masterplan. Innovum looks forward to helping more government agencies transit to G-Cloud to facilitate the whole-of-government adoption of cloud computing resources.
“The G-Cloud points the way forward for governments which are considering the adoption of cloud computing or are already in the process of migrating onto the cloud. With the synergies of Singtel and HP’s experience and capabilities in this field, Innovum is well positioned to help governments, particularly in the developing world, harness cloud resource to improve public service delivery,” Mr Chang added.
Jim Merritt, senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Group, HP Asia Pacific & Japan said: “Working with Singtel, HP has developed a platform that enhances the reliability of government IT assets and data, while streamlining government and IT operations within the public sector to deliver fast and efficient services to citizens and businesses. This will help G-Cloud enhance Singapore’s competitiveness and entrench its position as one of the world’s most competitive economies.”
G-Cloud will be showcased at the IDA’s booth and Innovum’s booth (Basement 2, Booth BC3-07) at CommunicAsia 2013 from 18 to 21 June 2013 at the Marina Bay Sands.
Agencies’ quotes
- The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore’s (IRAS) Assistant Commissioner of Infocomm Department, Ms Tang Wai Yee said: “G-Cloud provides an environment that meets government security standards and this allows government agencies like IRAS to leverage on it swiftly. With all the infrastructure ready upfront, we were able to focus on launching our Virtual Assistant service to the public rather than having to fuss on managing multiple vendors to get the infrastructure and hosting environment up to meet our objective.”
- Mr Amos Tan, Director (Communications and Operations) at the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) said: “The Personal Data Protection Commission is pleased to be one of the first to have its corporate website hosted on the G-Cloud environment. The G-Cloud has demonstrated security, reliability and scalability since the PDPC website was launched earlier this year. The G-Cloud team has also provided good advice and prompt support in meeting the PDPC’s needs.”
- Mr Lim Teck Soon, IT Director, Ministry of Education said: "The G-Cloud platform provides us the flexibility to scale our IT resources for seasonal workload. With the self-service portal, the capacities can be easily managed and turned on. MOE can deliver our e-services more efficiently, securely and on-demand to the schools.”
