Singtel donates 1 million pesos to Globe’s disaster relief efforts for Ondoy Victims

Singapore, 1 October 2009 -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) today announced that in support of its Philippine associate, Globe Telecom, it will be donating 1 million pesos to Globe’s corporate social responsibility programme, Globe Bridging Communities, which will go towards relief efforts to help victims of Tropical Storm Ketsana.

Globe will also contribute 1 million pesos to the fund that will total 2 million pesos. The fund will be used to distribute 10,000 relief packs containing essential items including food and water, to families in various affected communities.  This contribution will help Globe reach families in far-flung affected areas such as Marikina and Rizal areas.
 
Mr. Ernest L. Cu, Globe President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “Globe joins the rest of the nation in mobilizing resources to extend much needed help.  We appreciate Singtel’s concern to the Filipinos affected by the floods and landslides.  Globe is glad to work together with Singtel in providing for the immediate needs of these families.”
 
Mr Lim Chuan Poh, Singtel CEO International, said: “Singtel would like to do our part and support our partner Globe with their relief efforts in reaching out to the worst-hit areas.  On behalf of the Singtel Group, I extend my sympathies to the affected families.”
 
Globe earlier donated a total of 3million pesos to ABS-CBN Foundation’s Sagip Kapamilya, GMA Kapuso Foundation and the affected communities of Gawad Kalinga.   In addition, Globe has opened its business centers in several areas in Metro Manila to facilitate the acceptance and distribution of relief goods to the typhoon victims.  About 630 Globe employees have volunteered to help with the distribution of the relief packs.
 
Globe has also opened the relief operation to the public by partnering with the Philippine National Red Cross for the Donate-A-Load service.  Donors in the Philippines may text RED<space>5/25/50/100/300 to 2899.  Ex. Txt RED 50 to 2899.  The transaction is free of charge. 
 
Globe’s GCASH is also extending its help to overseas Filipinos families and beneficiaries by offering free remittance services via its GCASH REMIT from 30 September to 5 October 2009.
