Singapore, 13 December 2012 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) is contributing 500,000 Philippine Pesos to support relief efforts for Typhoon Bopha victims, through Globe Bridging Communities, the corporate social responsibility program by Globe Telecom (Globe), Singtel’s associated company.
Singtel’s donation will be used to purchase relief items, such as rice, canned food and drinking water, for affected families in the hardest hit areas of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental. Globe will mobilise its staff to bring these relief goods to the affected communities.
Ms Aileen Tan, Singtel Group Director of Human Resources, said, “We wish to express our sympathies to the many people affected by Typhoon Bopha. We hope our donation and partnership with Globe Telecom can bring some relief to them and to help in their rebuilding efforts.”
Globe and its employees have also donated a total of 800,000 Philippine Pesos towards Typhoon Bopha relief efforts. Globe has also set up stations to offer free phone calls and SMSes in affected areas, and provided the Philippines Department of Social Welfare and non-governmental organisations with laptops and internet dongles to help them with their relief work.
