Singapore 12 August 2013 – Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (Singtel) today announced that it is the first carrier in Southeast Asia to allow its customers to charge their Google Play purchases directly to their monthly mobile bill or prepaid account.

This simple and convenient payment option will be available to all Singtel mobile postpaid and prepaid customers from 15 August 2013.  It will also be progressively rolled out to Optus and Singtel’s regional associates.

With this payment option in place, customers do not need a credit card to pay for apps and content on Google Play.  They can also enjoy the one-stop convenience of having all of their app purchases consolidated into a single easy-to-manage bill.

Ms Gan Siok Hoon, Singtel’s Vice President of mCommerce, said: "Singtel is excited to offer customers, who do not have credit cards, access to more than one million apps and games available on Google Play. The introduction of direct carrier billing is part of our ongoing efforts to provide our customers with the best and most seamless Android experience."

Signing-up for operator billing is easy and can be completed within minutes. After selecting the apps to purchase, a simple one-time registration and validation is all that is required to enable customers to start making secure purchases.
