Singapore, 13 August 2009 -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) - title sponsor of the world’s first ever night race - today unveiled the top 21 Singtel Grid Girls and announced details of the pageant that will crown the lady who will lead the pack on race day.

The active, sporty girls are between 18 and 26 years of age, and hail from a range of diverse backgrounds. When choosing the girls who will represent Singtel and Singapore on race day, judges looked for those with sociable and charming personalities combined with a professional and positive attitude. They also have to be well-spoken and articulate as they are required to host the Singtel Grid Girls on Tour programme that has been running on MediaCorp Channel 5 since June this year.
With host Soo Kui Jien, the girls have traversed the globe, each trio of ladies visiting a different Formula OneTM race venue to meet the drivers and fans while taking in the sights and sounds at each adrenaline-pumping race. From Istanbul to Shanghai, London to Cologne, the girls turned heads in the many cities around the globe that they visited, certainly doing Singapore and Singtel proud.
To cap off this exciting Grid Girl season, a pageant to determine the winner will be held on September 21. The girls will be judged not only on their looks but also personality, poise and Formula OneTM knowledge. Viewers will be able to vote for their favourites and the show will be televised ‘live’ on MediaCorp Channel 5 from 8 to 9.30pm, as well as be available on-demand on mio TV. Viewer votes will comprise 50 percent of the final tally.
The winner of the Singtel Grid Girls on Tour Finals will take home a cash prize of $20,000 and the top three winners will lead the Grid Girls to the starting line on the day of the race. The first and second runners-up will receive $7,000 and $3,000 in cash respectively.
In the meantime, viewers can vote for the featured Singtel Grid Girls from Thursday 9.30pm till midnight on Sunday following the telecast of each episode. Online votes contribute five per cent of the final vote. In order to cast their vote, viewers must sign up
on
www.singtelrace.com and earn points by logging on and participating in the activities on the site. Two points will be deducted from their account for every vote made. The
viewers who vote for the winning Grid Girl stand to win a pair of tickets to the 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.
These ladies - whose role is to hold up the national flag of the driver and the number of his car before each race - also adds a much-welcome splash of colour and glamour to the race track. There will be 48 Singtel Grid Girls altogether on the track on race day, two to each team.
Fans can get to know the girls better by logging on to www.singtelrace.com where they can read their blogs and find information about them. They can also play photographer by conducting a fashion shoot with their favourite model, after which they can personalise and send the album to them with a message and post it on their blog.
