Singapore, 13 September 2013 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited’s (Singtel) sustainability efforts have been recognised with its inclusion on the Dow Jones Sustainability Australia Index and the CDP Global 500 Climate Change Report 2013.

Singtel is one of 55 companies and also one of ten new entrants listed on the Australia Index. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices evaluate the performance of leading companies from each industry on a global and regional level, and involve thorough analyses of corporate governance, innovation, environmental standards, marketing practices, risk management, and other sustainability topics.

Singtel was also one of two Singapore companies listed on the FTSE Global 500 Equity Index to be scored by CDP on climate change disclosure and performance. Formerly known as Carbon Disclosure Project, CDP is an international not-for-profit organisation that works with investors, companies and governments to drive environmental disclosure and action that will deliver a sustainable economy, prevent dangerous climate change and protect natural resources. Over 4,500 businesses globally have disclosed through CDP this year.

Mr Andrew Buay, Singtel’s Vice President of Group Corporate Social Responsibility, said: “Corporate sustainability is core to the way the Singtel Group operates our business. We are very encouraged to have earned recognition by these prestigious organisations. We will continue to drive our sustainability strategy focusing on the four key pillars of marketplace, people, environment and community.”

Some of Singtel’s recent sustainability initiatives include the reduction of energy consumption on its networks by upgrading its mobile base stations to more energy efficient ones. To provide a more comprehensive overview of the company’s carbon footprint, Singtel has also been improving its monitoring and measurement by including carbon emissions from contractor fleets, business air travel and even employee commute.
