Singtel inks partnership with Al Jazeera English for mio TV

Customers can now watch the channel on mio TV and on their mobile phones

Singapore, 26 February 2008 – Singtel and Al Jazeera Network today announced partnership details to broadcast Al Jazeera English on mio TV.  As the first English language global news and current affairs channel based in the Middle East, Al Jazeera English will start broadcasting in Singapore exclusively from 1 March 2008 with mio TV on channel 43. The partnership allows mio TV subscribers exclusive access to the channel’s groundbreaking content. Subscribers to mio TV can also choose to watch the channel streamed ‘live’ on their 3G mobile phones in April 2008.

Al Jazeera English broadcasts from the Middle East to over 100 million households worldwide, making it one of the leading players in international news. As the channel of record for Middle East events, and with broadcast centres strategically placed in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington DC, Al Jazeera English balances the global information flow from South to North with independent, impartial journalism, giving voice to alternative perspectives from under-reported regions around the world.
 
Especially noteworthy are Al Jazeera’s acclaimed news anchors; Veronica Pedrosa was named ‘Best News Anchor’ at the ninth Asian Television Awards 2004 and brings 15 years of international news experience to Al Jazeera English and David Foster is a veteran in the business with 34 years of experience as a journalist.

  • Al Jazeera English on mio TV Channel 43 – available on a monthly basis at $5.35/month or on a twelve months basis at $4.28/month
  • Al Jazeera English on 3G Mobile Phone (available on Singtel’s IDEAS WAP Portal April 2008) – available on a monthly basis at $3.21/month or via pay-per-used access at $0.54 per access
