Singapore, 20 June 2008 -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) and euronews today announced that they have reached an agreement to broadcast the channel on mio TV.

Targeting to launch later this year, euronews - Europe’s leading news channel - will be exclusive to mio TV and available in four different languages - English, French, German or Italian. Viewers will be able to select their choice of language via remote control.

“The addition of euronews adds another well-respected news channel to our existing mio TV stable,” said Mr Low Ka Hoe, Singtel’s Director for mio TV and Content.   “We are certain that euronews will be very well received by Singaporeans who appreciate the channel’s dedication to remaining completely impartial and objective as well as its library of insightful features and documentaries.”

Philippe Cayla, Chairman and CEO of euronews said: "While European Commissioner Mrs Viviane Reding is in Singapore, I am very proud to announce today the launch of the channel on mio TV. Thanks to this agreement with Singtel, euronews will now be available in five countries in Asia, and for the channel this is a step towards the reinforcement of the EU relations withSingapore."

Covering world news from a European perspective, euronews was launched on 1 January 1993 as the first multilingual pan-European news service.   Since then, the channel has made its name for itself among the international news channels and is now broadcast throughout the world, leading the European market in audience and distribution despite increasing competition.

euronews strongly believes in broadcasting accurate, verified information without any kind of bias.   Last year, the company undertook a reassessment of the strategic direction of the news channel.  Since June 4, 2008, the new platform highlights the relevance of the euronews model and demonstrates that prioritising facts over perspectives is a virtue at a time when society is experiencing increasing media corruption.

In this era of the ‘citizen journalist’,  euronews has adopted the crucial task of ensuring viewers are quickly made aware of the facts they need to form their opinion of world issues.

euronews uses voice-over narration to accompany all news footage except for live coverage, and features a “No Comment” segment dedicated to reports which exclusively consist of visual content.

euronews has a strict editorial policy of broadcasting accurate and verified information. Uniquely, there is no studio and no anchormen, giving euronews a distinctive and immediately identifiable style.

euronews today reaches more than 200 million homes in 130 countries through cable, satellite and terrestrial TV. In addition euronews is available via hotels, airline networks, ADSL, internet, PDA and mobile phones. In Asia, the channel is already available in Japan, Vietnam, Australiaand Hong Kong.

Every 30 minutes, euronews provides a constantly updated bulletin containing in-depth coverage of the day's top news, sport, business and European affairs. euronews also brings a wide range of Current Affairs and Lifestyle features including cinema, science, fashion, high technology and the arts.
