Locator lets mobile users know whereabouts of loved ones in Singapore
Singapore, 26 November 2008 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) announced that it is the first operator in Singapore to offer a location tracker service to consumers. The new service called Locator provides users with peace of mind when, for example, they are away from their elderly family members or young charges.
Customers have on-the-go information on the whereabouts of their loved ones in Singapore by dialling *FIND (*3463) on their WAP-enabled mobile phones. They will see on their mobile phone a map that shows the vicinity# of their loved ones.
Mr Wong Soon Nam, Singtel’s Vice President of Consumer Marketing, said: “Our customers, especially those who are parents and caregivers, have requested for such a service as they want to enjoy peace-of-mind of knowing the whereabouts of their elderly and young family members anytime easily, without calling or sending an SMS to them.
This novel service also has robust features that protect the privacy of our customers.”
Customers can locate up to three Singtel postpaid mobile phone numbers. When they add mobile numbers to their Locator list, a notification will be sent to the owners of these mobile numbers seeking their consent to be located. Customers can choose not to participate or withdraw their consent anytime by dialing *FIND.
A monthly notification is also sent to those who have given their approval to be located to remind them that they are still on the Locator list.
Mr Wong said: “With our customers’ ever changing needs, we always anticipate and aim to exceed their expectations with simple yet innovative services.”
The service is available to Singtel’s postpaid customers at $5.35/month (inclusive of GST)
##. As a launch promotion, Singtel’s postpaid mobile customers who sign up before 31 December 2008 will receive free registration and a free one-month subscription to Locator. The service will be available via a website portal in addition to mobile phones at a later date.
