- Supplementary educational service for primary school students available on three different digital platforms
- Parents can easily monitor their child’s progress using the app
Singapore, 8 May, 2014 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) today announced the launch of Genio, an interactive educational service aimed at augmenting the local primary school curriculum. Designed to utilise the many digital platforms currently available, Genio will initially be accessible on three different platforms - on phones and tablets via the Apple App Store, on Singtel mio TV and online via any web browser. The service will also be available on Android devices by August 2014.
Genio aims to bolster learning through a series of high-quality educational videos and assessments based on Singapore’s Ministry of Education curriculum. The student can conveniently access these videos anywhere and anytime, and complete the in-app assessments after each video lesson.
Mr Goh Seow Eng, MD of TV, Singtel said, “Working in tandem with the child’s school curriculum, Genio ensures that he or she has a thorough understanding of each subject. Parents can be assured of a high-quality, engaging service that allows learning to take place on-the-go.”
Singtel also has plans to launch the service regionally, bringing Singapore’s highly regarded education curriculum to the region.
Quality educational video lessons
Students will enjoy succinct and engaging studio-produced video lessons by subject presenters. These are jointly-developed with education partners, Learning Point and onSponge.
Singtel has also engaged highly-experienced education consultants such as Ms Liu Yueh Mei who has over 15 years of MOE experience (refer to Annex A), and appointed a Genio Education Advisory Committee made up of Singapore educators to ensure that these video lessons meet the educational objectives of Genio.
An interactive and enriching learning experience with Genio
After completing the video lessons, students are encouraged to take an assessment on their tablets or online. In order to keep the assessments challenging and engaging, Genio has included a gaming element where the students complete assessments trying not to expend the three given ‘lives’.
The assessments will test the student’s level of understanding of individual topics and will help parents keep track of his or her progress. With their own login to the student’s Genio subscription, parents will also be able to monitor their child’s progress and track the results of each assessment through well-organised charts.
The service also encourages interaction between parent and child by enabling parents to send messages of encouragement and reminders to their child’s version of Genio.
