Award-winning local filmmakers Boo Junfeng and Kristen Tan join judging panel
Singapore, 19 July 2017 – Singtel’s The 5-Min Video Challenge returns for a second season in Singapore following its successful debut last year. Centred on the theme, “Connecting Lives”, the video challenge will be held on local and regional levels with competition coming from Singtel Group’s markets in Asia, Australia and Africa.
Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Singapore, Singtel, said, “With The 5-Min Video Challenge, we are able to support the creative arts in Singapore by providing a platform for film talents to showcase their works, and also enhance our content library with meaningful videos that have a local slice of life.”
For this year’s challenge in Singapore, the judging panel will comprise award-winning filmmakers, Mr Boo Junfeng and Ms Kristen Tan, Cultural Medallion recipient Mr Eric Khoo, Singtel’s Managing Director of Home, Mr Goh Seow Eng, and Ms Lian Pek, Vice President of Group Strategic Communications and Brand.
Ms Tan said, “I am thrilled to be one of the judges for Singtel’s The 5-Min Video Challenge this year. The short-form videos have always been an important discovery platform for filmmakers since this is where most of us began. It's where filmmakers can be bold to try, make mistakes, and improve their skills. I'm honoured to be given a chance to discover some young Singaporean talents that will undoubtedly emerge from this challenge.”
Filmmakers can start submitting their videos at http://5minvideo.singtel.com/ from today until 30 September 2017. The local winner and runner-up will receive cash prizes of S$15,000 and S$10,000 respectively. Their submissions will also be broadcast on Singtel TV, OTT video portal app Cast, the official Singtel Facebook page and Singtel YouTube channel.
They will then compete in the regional grand final in November, for the titles of grand winner and runner-up, with cash prizes of US$30,000 and US$15,000 respectively. In addition to these top prizes, regional finalists are also in the running for the People’s Choice Award and the newly-created Social Media Star Award.
All regional finalists will have the opportunity to promote their videos on each Singtel Group member’s mobile and video platforms, allowing them to reach a 638-million strong audience across Singtel, Optus, AIS, Airtel, Globe and Telkomsel.
