Unrivalled video experience over super-fast 4G with mio TV Play app
Singapore 21 August 2012 – Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (Singtel) today announced that it will launch Singapore's first 4G service for tablets on 28 August.
The service will offer tablet users theoretical download speeds of up to 75Mbps and typical download speeds between 3.4Mbps and 12Mbps (1). It will provide mobile Internet access that is more than three times faster than existing 21Mbps 3G tablet services, with one-fifth of the network latency (2).
Singtel will also be the first to bring 4G tablets to Singapore. At launch, two models will be offered: Asus Transformer Pad TF300TL and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 (LTE). (Please refer to Annex 1 for technical specifications). These tablets will be available from Singtel with the new Prestige 75 plans. Existing 4G smartphone customers can also purchase the tablets with a multi-SIM plan. Singtel is working with leading handset manufacturers to expand its range of tablets over time.
Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Singtel's CEO Consumer Singapore, said: “With the high speeds and low latency performance of our 4G network, tablet users will enjoy the ultimate multimedia experience for their videos, games, music and online content. We were the first to bring 4G smartphones to Singapore, and we are thrilled to be the first to put 4G tablets into the hands of our customers. We are rapidly expanding our 4G network coverage, and we are well on track to achieve island wide coverage early next year."

(1) Users can expect 3.4Mbps to 12Mbps speeds more than 80% of the time in areas of coverage. Speeds and user experience are dependent on factors such as the user’s location from base stations, the number of users in the area, the mobile devices used, as well as the response of websites accessed. Users may also experience slower speeds indoors where mobile signals are blocked by walls and structures.
(2) Three times faster than 21Mbps 3G mobile broadband service. Network latency will vary depending on the location of the web servers accessed by the user. 80% lower latency was measured for Singapore-based servers.
