Singtel launches world’s first web-based Remote Content Management service for the broadcast industry

Breakthrough service allows broadcast monitoring on the go

Solution developed at Singtel’s cutting-edge Broadcast Innovation Centre

Singapore, 15 September 2009 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) today announced it has launched the world’s first web-based Remote Content Management service. This service allows businesses to record, monitor and manage live broadcasts from multiple TV and radio channels received via Singtel’s Bukit Timah satellite earth station.

The Remote Content Management service provides users with real-time alerts whenever selected programmes and advertisements are aired, capturing the precise details of broadcasts in customisable reports. It can also be configured to automatically detect specific keywords, as well as capture captions and teletext.

The service is ideal for companies that need to closely manage live media broadcasts, such as advertisers, broadcasters, media agencies, market research firms, content producers and distributors.

For example, the service can help companies ensure that contractual obligations for advertising campaigns are fulfilled. It can provide broadcasters with a cost-effective way to monitor broadcasts and detect transmission failures.

Users can view live and recorded footage via a secure, password protected web portal. The portal also allows users to search through media archives with a powerful keyword search function. In addition, users can tag and edit media clippings and convert them to popular webpage-ready formats such as AVI, Flash, MPEG4 and WMV. This is useful for web content providers and companies offering online video-on-demand services.

Mr Bill Chang, Singtel’s Executive Vice President of Business Group, said: “The Remote Content Management service allows businesses to enjoy world-class media management tools on demand without heavy upfront investments in media servers and ICT equipment, as well as ongoing maintenance and upgrade costs. Hence, our customers can expect savings of more than 50 per cent. There is also no need to install software into PCs and laptops or purchase licences.”

The Remote Content Management service is available on a monthly subscription basis. It is a product of Singtel’s new Broadcast Innovation Centre (BIC), a state-of-the-art facility that was launched in June 2009.

Housed in Singtel’s Bukit Timah satellite earth station, the BIC lowers the cost of technology development by providing broadcast media entrepreneurs with the resources to turn their ideas into reality. It serves as a powerful digital media exchange and content distribution hub that connects companies in Singapore to major media capitals worldwide via high-speed satellite and terrestrial fibre networks.

Mr Chang said: “Singtel is committed to helping companies in the broadcast industry to reduce their costs and make the most of their resources. Through the solutions of the Broadcast Innovation Centre, we hope to be a catalyst for innovation in the industry and establish Singapore as the city of choice for media companies worldwide.”
