Singapore, 1 October 2012 - Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) today announced the launch of Discovery Kids on mio TV Channel 458.

Discovery Kids, which is available immediately, educates children while entertaining them with knowledge-based content that sparks their curiosity and develops their thinking, social, and emotional skills. The channel brings parents and their children together to view its highly educational and entertaining content.

The core values of Discovery Kids are: transformative (providing an immersive experience that sparks wonder and curiosity); smart (providing creative surprises for enquiring minds); playful (stimulating learning and imagination in fun and innovative ways); and educational (creating a trusted atmosphere for engaged learning).

“Discovery Kids is a most welcome addition to mio TV’s suite of channels. It highlights our commitment to offer high-quality educational content to our customers’ families,” said Goh Seow Eng, Managing Director of Television, Singtel. “What’s more, the channel will be offered to our new mio Home and exPlore Home (triple-play) customers as part of our complimentary Welcome Pack, and will soon be available on multiple devices like tablets and smartphones as well.”

“We are delighted to forge this partnership with Singtel’s mio TV. Discovery Kids will offer young mio TV viewers a highly entertaining way to satisfy their natural curiosity, and ignite their imagination with stimulating and transformative programs.  This new channel, brought to you by the team behind Discovery Channel, will play a big role in the development of kids’ social, cognitive, emotional and personal skills,” said Kevin Dickie, Senior Vice President, Content Group, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific.

Programming highlights from Discovery Kids at launch on Singtel mio TV include Discovery-produced HEADRUSH featuring Kari Byron from the popular hit series MYTHBUSTERS, THINK BIG, WILD KRATTS and QUIRKY SCIENCE.

HEADRUSH provides young viewers with an hour of games and experiences, with content and ideas from MYTHBUSTERS, a flagship program of Discovery Channel. THINK BIG features journeys of young inventors who might just have the next big hit.  From the “sibling alarm” to the “toilet paper headband,” each episode is peppered with fun facts, trivia, inspirational success stories and imagination labs to get young viewers to start inventing too. WILD KRATTS, an animated series created by zoologists Chris and Martin Kratt, is a cartoon series with a twist - combining science education with fun and humor.  Young viewers can join the adventures of the two brothers as they travel the world encountering incredible wild animals. The series also teaches children small ways to make big impact (such as building bat houses), while entertaining them with the Kratt’s usual  antics. QUIRKY SCIENCE  is  a  series  that  explores  just  exactly  where science went awry and leads to new discoveries and inventions. For example, how did trying to find a cure for malaria lead to air conditioning? What did the development of radar have to do with the microwave oven? Or what does surviving a nuclear war have to do with the Internet?
