New convenient way for customers to top up their prepaid mobile cards

Singapore, 6 October 2006 -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) is launching a new prepaid top-up service called Merchant2U which offers a hassle-free experience for customers.

The service allows all active prepaid mobile customers to conveniently purchase credit value directly from any of the 127 Singtel Exclusive Retailers located around Singapore.   These retailers have special Merchant2U SIM cards pre-loaded with credit which they can then transfer directly to customers via SMS in multiples of $10, $15, $20, $25, $30, $35, $40 and $50.

This option saves customers the hassle of having to key in the serial and PIN numbers printed on their top-up cards when adding value to their accounts.

“We are pleased to be the first in the industry to introduce this innovative service,” said Ms Vicki Brady, Singtel’s Vice President of Consumer Marketing.   “Merchant2U makes it easier and more convenient for Singtel prepaid customers to add credit to their accounts.  This is in line with our aim to bring more value and convenience to our customers through innovative products and services.”

“The other advantage is that since everything is done over the air, the risk of theft and loss of the top-up card is eliminated,” she added.

Users can also top-up Singtel prepaid mobile accounts on behalf of their friends and family members.   Confirmation of added value can be viewed via the SMS message received on the merchant’s mobile phone, and an SMS will be sent to the subscriber informing them of the sender’s mobile number, the amount sent to their account, new card balance and expiry date.

As an introductory promotion, Singtel is offering 20 per cent extra bonus value on all Merchant2U top-up denominations except $10 and $28 until 8 January 2007.

Merchant2U is available from 9 October 2006 at all 127 Singtel Mobile Exclusive Retailers.   The second phase of the service, which will be launched later this year, will see the facility being offered at non-exclusive retail shops and other Singtel Mobile prepaid card retailers.  There is no registration fee for this service.
