Singtel launches WhizGuide, the first free smart location-based guide
5 November 2007 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) today announced that it has extended its free wireless broadband access to some of the top five tourist attractions like Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and Jurong BirdPark. Singtel has also launched WhizGuide at these venues.
Singtel Wireless@SG coverage and WhizGuide at these tourist attractions will offer visitors location-based online discovery portals and relevant information. Using WiFi supported devices including mobile phones at popular areas within the attractions, visitors can quickly access information such as show times and membership programmes. In addition, users can enjoy free Internet surfing services.
Singtel Wireless@SG is available at more than 800 Wireless Surf Zones, which include Orchard Road in the North region. With the extension to these tourist destinations, it allows users to access the Internet anywhere, while on the move.
Mr Quek Peck Leng, Singtel’s Executive Vice President of Consumer, said: “With the introduction of WhizGuide, e-learning on the go will become a reality, as places of interest can utilise WhizGuide to inform and educate visitors real-time. We believe that Singtel WhizGuide can make visits and excursions even more informative and interesting.”
Dr. Ho Yew Kee, Executive Director of Wildlife Reserves Singapore, said: “We are delighted to be included on Singtel’s Wireless@SG coverage network. This marks a significant milestone for the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and Jurong BirdPark as it allows visitors to enhance their visit with wireless location-based conservation and educational information.”
These three locations are the first tourist attractions to be included in WhizGuide. Coverage in these locations will include the restaurants, function areas and other high human traffic areas such as the Amphitheatres. There are plans to enhance WhizGuide in the future with features like virtual tours, interactive location maps and providing interesting facts about the location.
Mr Quek added: “With the addition of these key services and extended coverage of Wireless@SG, we aim to enhance our users’ wireless broadband experience. Singtel is proud to pave the way for Singapore’s bid to become an Intelligent Nation.”
