First deployment of 3G by the host government at an IMF/World Bank event
Singapore, 29 August 2006 -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) announced today details of its support for Singapore 2006, a series of meetings and seminars which will be held in September. The highlight of Singapore 2006 will be the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.
As the Telco Lead Partner, Singtel will be providing approximately S$2 million worth of voice, mobile, broadband and data solutions for the Singapore 2006 delegates and the Singapore 2006 Organising Committee.
This will enable all participants to enjoy speedy access to information anytime, anywhere during the event.
Singtel, recognised for its innovation, quality and reliability with over 125 years of operating experience in the telecom industry, will help boost Singapore’s leadership in exploiting infocomm technologies and reinforce its position as a regional infocomm hub and a connected city.

First to deploy 3G services
To realise Singapore’s aim of being the first hosting government that deploys 3G mobile phones at an IMF/World Bank event, Singtel will be providing about 465 3G mobile lines.
For the Organising Committee, Singtel will be supplying 875
hi!Cards and $245,000 worth of airtime.
Comprehensive services
Singtel will supply high-speed Internet access on the fixed-line network for the delegates. In addition, 16 ISDN-30 (i.e. 30 voice channels) trunk circuits for the PABX system with 3,000 direct dialling numbers will also be provided for their communication needs.
Besides the delegates, Singtel will take care of the telecom requirements of the Singapore 2006 Organising Committee by providing high-speed local digital leased circuits and about 200 telephone lines for voice and fax.
Customised collaterals
Besides the comprehensive suite of telecom services, Singtel will also place umbrellas in specially arranged transportation for the participants. Furthermore, Singtel will provide the delegates, press centre and temporary offices with 2,200 mouse pads.
Complementary service counters
To complement the telecom services, Singtel will operate counters to meet the needs of the delegates. Besides communication services, there will be rental of equipment and phone/fax lines, as well as sale of items such as batteries and stationery.

- ISDN or Integrated Services Digital Network is a type of circuit switched telephone network system. It is designed to allow digital transmission of voice and data over ordinary telephone copper wires, resulting in better quality and higher speeds.
- PABX stands for Private Automatic Branch Exchange. It is a telephone switching system that connects internal phone extensions to one another, as well as to the domestic telephone network. For Singapore 2006, the digital PABX system will be provided by Alcatel.
