PVP Esports to present first-ever standalone Mobile Legends: Bang Bang professional league with up to S$100,000 prize pool
Singapore, 4 February 2021 – Singtel’s PVP Esports is teaming up with MOONTON, developer of popular multiplayer online battle arena game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, to present Season 1 of the inaugural Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League in Singapore (MPL Singapore) this year, featuring a prize pool of up to S$100,000. This is the first time that a standalone Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) pro league tournament will be held in Singapore.
The collaboration between PVP Esports and MOONTON follows the popularity of MLBB in Singapore, where it is the highest-grossing mobile game1, and PVP Esports’ success and experience in hosting the PVP Esports Community Championships, which has featured MLBB as a marquee title. Formerly part of the combined MPL MYSG leagues which involved players from both Malaysia and Singapore teams, MPL Singapore is a more targeted tournament which will open up opportunities for more Singapore esports teams to shine and further hone their skills through a top-tier competition. In addition to promoting gameplay, MPL Singapore will also develop the local gaming ecosystem by encouraging potential brand partners to come forward to get involved in the tournament through initiatives like sponsorships, collaboration with teams and joint campaigns.
Ms Cindy Tan, Head of Business and Marketing, Singtel’s International Group, said, “Over the last two years, Singtel’s PVP Esports has grown from strength to strength as a platform for gaming enthusiasts from around the region to share their love of esports. We are delighted to partner a major developer like MOONTON to debut MPL Singapore, furthering our efforts to bring gamers together through events such as our very own PVP Esports Community Championships and SuperGamerFest 2020 and MOONTON’s recently concluded M2 World Championship, where Singtel was the official network partner. Through MPL Singapore, we hope to discover and support new local gaming talents and at the same time, strengthen collaborations with game developers, brand sponsors, various agencies and institutions to build a vibrant gaming scene in Singapore and the region.”
Mr Lucas Mao, Managing Director of MOONTON Esports, said, “MOONTON Esports is proud to have enjoyed the strong support of many players and partners, many of whom have given their unwavering support over the years. As the Singapore esports scene is developing rapidly, we would be committing to provide more opportunities to local players, teams and brands to participate in our journey to building and expedite the growth of the esports ecosystem in Singapore with whom we look forward to build relationships that will last for coming years.”
Registration for Season 1 of 2021 will open on 1 February, with qualifiers scheduled for March and eight teams will participate in the regular season playoffs through April and May. Professional Singapore gaming teams will also be invited to play alongside teams shortlisted from the qualifiers to boost the level of competition and excitement in the game. Besides attractive cash prizes for the top teams, there will also be individual player awards, such as Regular Season MVP, Playoff MVP, Best Caster as well as Tournament Rookie. Winners of MPL Singapore will advance to MOONTON’s Mobile Legends regional and global tournaments and get a chance to compete with the best MLBB players globally.
MPL Singapore will also engage the burgeoning regional esports audience community. The tournament will be streamed live on MPL Singapore and PVP Esports social media pages to cater to MLBB fans who wish to support their favourite teams. In 2020, the MPL MYSG league clocked over 80,000 viewers at its peak and over 1.6 million hours of viewership.
