Singtel continues to enjoy largest market share for data centre services

Singapore , 18 February 2010 --Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) announced today it has received the prestigious 2009 Singapore Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Award in the Data Centre Services Market.

Singtel received the award for: (i) Largest market share (ii) Highest revenue growth (iii) Largest data centre floor space in Singapore (iv) Comprehensive and Innovative green Infocomm Technology (ICT) solutions.

With the launch of its new 150,000 square feet Kim Chuan Telecommunications Centre (KCTC-2) in early 2010, Singtel will offer over 500,000 square feet of data centre space. According to Frost & Sullivan, this is almost half of Singapore’s total data centre space.

Singtel demonstrated its leadership in implementing several important initiatives in the data centre industry. For example, KCTC-2 is constructed according to the Building and Construction Authority’s Green Mark scheme, a building rating system that evaluates buildings based on criteria such as energy and water efficiency, as well as environmental friendliness. According to Frost & Sullivan, KCTC-2 is also the first facility in Singapore to be built according to Tier-4 specifications, the industry’s most stringent data centre standards for reliability and service availability.

KCTC-2 is built to support customers’ stringent data centre requirements, with a high cooling density of 1500 watts per square metre and the ability to scale quickly. It also uses the latest green technologies and best practices to provide customers the most cost effective and ecologically responsible ICT services.  For example, Singtel’s thermal analysis service helps customers improve the layout and placement of their IT equipment for optimal energy efficiency and reliability. Other green ICT solutions include virtualisation services, which enable customers to reduce the footprint of servers.

The Frost & Sullivan award recognises Singtel for providing its data centre customers with direct connectivity to the rest of the world, through its extensive submarine cable network, satellite services and market leading IP VPN network. Singtel has 10 data centres across the region to offer one-stop ICT services and solutions to meet the needs of global and regional customers.

Singtel’s data centres offer a wide selection of managed services that allow businesses to avoid heavy upfront investments in infrastructure, while improving productivity, simplifying business operations and lowering the total cost of ownership.  Cutting-edge green ICT services, Server Management, Security Management, Backup Management and Singtel’s extensive suite of Cloud Computing services offer customers security, peace of mind and convenience.

Mr Nitin Bhat, Frost & Sullivan’s Partner, said: “Singtel has established its leadership in the industry with its cutting-edge infrastructure and innovative managed solutions that address every aspect of its customers’ challenging business needs. With its ambitious strategies and large customer base, Singtel is well positioned to capitalise on its strong presence and leadership in Singapore and the region.”

Mr Bill Chang, Singtel’s Executive Vice President of Business Group, said: “We are delighted to receive this award which recognises Singtel’s commitment to breaking new ground in the data centre industry.

“The capabilities of Singtel’s data centres are critical to our customers’ operations. They are a key consideration for enterprises that decide to make Singapore their regional business hub to compete in the global economy. Singtel’s investments in next generation datacenters are timely in addressing the fast growing needs of the Cloud Computing market. They will enable us to attract world-class players to set up their operations in Singapore and further establish our nation as a regional Cloud Computing hub.”
