- Committed to raise S$2.5 million this year
- Over 800 staff volunteers for kick-off activity
- Raised a total of S$20 million for beneficiaries over past 9 years
Singapore, 23 June 2011 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) will kick off the 10th year of its fund-raising programme, Singtel Touching Lives Fund (STLF), with a Flag Day on Friday (24 June 2011) with participation from over 800 employees, their family members and friends.
The team, led by Ms Chua Sock Koong, Group CEO, Ms Jeann Low, STLF Chairman and Group CFO and Ms Aileen Tan, STLF Deputy Chairman and Group Director Human Resource, will be visiting different parts of the island. The company held their first flag day in 2002 at the launch of the STLF.
This year, STLF is committed to raise S$2.5 million and aims to collect S$100,000 from this event. The funds raised will go towards the six charities supported by STLF this year.
“I am very heartened by the support from our staff for the Singtel Flag Day. Many of them have signed up their families and friends to join us at this fund-raising event,” said Ms Low.
“Over the past nine years, a total of S$20 million was raised and donated to various charities supporting children and young people. We raise funds by organising activities that engage our employees, business partners, customers, regional associates and the general public.”
“Beyond the financial assistance, through Fold-A-Heart in schools and volunteering efforts by Singtel staff, we have also raised awareness and societal consciousness for these needs.”
Other fund-raising activities planned for this year include Singtel-Singapore Cancer Society Race Against Cancer on 10 July at East Coast Park, Singtel Charity Golf on 19 August at the Tanah Merah Country Club and the signature Fold-A-Heart campaign.
The six charities are:
- APSN Chaoyang School
- APSN Tanglin School
- AWWA Early Years Centre – Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Young Children (EIPIC)
- MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School
- Singapore Cancer Society – Help the Children and Youth Programme
- Students Care Service
Besides making its corporate contribution to STLF, Singtel fully underwrites the fund-raising costs for the programme. This practice, which has been in place since the start of STLF in 2002, ensures every dollar raised goes towards the work of its beneficiaries.
Singtel customers and the public can also make donations to STLF via hotlines: 1900 112 8811 (fixed line) and *8111 (Singtel mobile) that are open until December. Each call is a S$5 donation.
Crossed cheque donations can be made to ‘Singtel Touching Lives Fund’ and mailed to: Singtel Group Communications, 31 Exeter Road, #19-00, Comcentre, Singapore 239732. Customers can also donate online via DBS iBanking at www.dbs.com.sg. Outright cash donations qualify for 250 per cent tax deduction.
