Singapore, 20 August 2008 -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) today announced that the highly anticipated iPhone 3G will go on sale at 12.01am, 22 August, at its Comcentre headquarters at 31 Exeter Road. 

 

Comcentre will extend its usual opening hours* on Thursday for the midnight launch and starting Monday, 25August, iPhone 3G will be sold at all  hello! stores.  The iPhone 3G will be available for as low as $0 with 2-year contracts on new or existing plans. 

 

The new iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone plus 3G networking that is twice as fast**, built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs over 1,000 third party applications available through the new App Store.

 

“iPhone 3G will redefine consumers’ mobile phone experience,” said Mr Quek Peck Leng, Singtel’s Executive Vice President of Consumer.  “With the revolutionary iPhone 3G and Singtel’s extensive high-speed data network, consumers will enjoy making calls, sending SMS, browsing the web and listening to music more than ever before.”

Singtel will also offer three new specially designed price plans for iPhone 3G.  The three ‘iFlexi’ postpaid plans will be the first bundled plans in Singapore that offer free talktime, SMS and data to consumers.  Customers can enjoy free incoming calls all day, up to 1,500 minutes outgoing talktime and 1500 free SMS, as well as 3 GB free data (upload and download) usage at speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps.

The new iPhone 3G works with Singtel’s 3G/3.5G and 2G networks and detects Wireless@SG Wi-Fi hotspots automatically, making it ideal for high-speed, multimedia-rich surfing experience while on the move.  Users, including SingNet Broadband customers, can also log on to their wireless modems at home or in the office to access the Internet.

“We believe that our new bundled price plans can best meet our iPhone 3G customers’ different lifestyle needs and usage patterns, be it for business or leisure,” said Mr Quek.  “We are also happy to offer our iPhone 3G customers free Wireless@SG access even after the free access scheme under the iN2015 plan ends next year.”
