Singapore 22 Sep 2010 - Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (Singtel) today unveiled
Asia's top 10 web and mobile applications (apps) at the Accelerate 2010 business
innovations forum.
The apps were selected from over 200 submissions in a competition that was organised
by the Singtel Innovation Exchange (SiX) partnership programme and leading
technology online blog e27. Ten countries were represented in the poll which garnered
more than 5000 votes from the Asian apps developers' community over a period of 41
days.
The competition attracted a diverse range of innovative apps for consumers and
businesses. For example, the ShowNearby app allows mobile users to identify the
location of points of interest and useful information, such as bus timings, carpark rates
and restaurant opening times.
The winning developers will enjoy a three-month stay at Silicon Valley’s renowned Plug
and Play technology centre to fast-track the development and commercialisation of their
solutions.
Developers will also have the opportunity to pitch their solutions to the Singtel Group's
regional associates. This allows them to promote their apps to potentially over 351
million mobile subscribers and thousands of businesses in over 8 regional markets.
Mr Wong Joon Ian, e27's Editor, said: "We were really impressed by the diversity of the
submissions. The apps chosen today really highlight the creativity bubbling up from
developers in Asia."
Mr Bill Chang, Singtel's Executive Vice President of Business Group, said: "Through
Accelerate 2010 and the Singtel Innovation Exchange, Singtel seeks to leverage the
strengths and collaborative efforts of a community of partners to uncover exciting new
innovative ICT services that will change the way our customers live, work and play.
"Without the right opportunities and resources, it is difficult for ISVs to turn their ideas
into reality. As Asia’s leading provider of cloud services, Singtel has the experience and
vast regional presence to enable ISVs to innovate faster and more effectively, and seize
business opportunities in Singapore and beyond. By grooming local ISVs and attracting
global players, Singtel seeks to strengthen Singapore’s role as a regional ICT and cloud
computing hub."
