Company recognised as leader in adopting a sustainable business approach

SINGAPORE, 26 October 2016 – Singtel today was recognised with the top award at the inaugural Singapore Corporate Sustainability Awards, with an Apex Honour Roll in the Sustainable Business Category. The Apex Honour Roll is the highest recognition given to the top winner of the category.

Ms Chua Sock Koong, Singtel Group CEO said, “We are honoured to receive the Apex Honour Roll at the Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards. This award affirms our Group-wide efforts in bringing positive economic, social and environmental change to the communities we operate in. The Sustainable Business Category of the awards recognises companies that implement sustainable practices within their core operations. The broad areas that are taken into consideration include their stakeholder engagement process to gather insights on CSR issues, and the progressive approach their business takes in creating positive economic, social and environmental impact.

Mr Wilson Ang, Executive Director of Global Compact Network Singapore, said, “Singtel was awarded the Apex title for the Sustainable Business Category as they have demonstrated that sustainability is an integral part of their business strategy. Initiatives such as their climate adaptation assessment, tracking of their employees’ travelling carbon footprint, and Singtel Future Makers – a social innovation programme that supports innovators who can create digital solutions to meet the community’s needs, really gave them an edge over the rest.”

The Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards, which is organised by Global Compact Network Singapore, represents the most prestigious form of recognition for companies in Singapore on Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Sustainability.
