Singapore, 14 November, 2018 – The GSMA has announced the appointment of Ms Chua Sock Koong, Singtel Group CEO, as Deputy Chair of its Board. Her appointment comes as the GSMA elected new Board members for a two-year period from January 2019 through December 2020, including Mr Stéphane Richard, Chairman and CEO of Orange, as Chair, and Mr Gopal Vittal, CEO of Airtel, Singtel’s regional associate. As Deputy Chair, Ms Chua will play a leadership role in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation of more than 750 of the world’s mobile operators, as well as over 350 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem.
“I’m honoured to be elected to serve as Deputy Chair of the GSMA at a very important time for the telco industry. The momentum of digitalisation means we all need to move faster and collaborate more closely to drive the adoption of new technologies and extend the benefits of connectivity to those who are still unconnected. I look forward to working with the rest of the Board, GSMA leadership team and the wider organisation, to capture the digital opportunities for our industry, and shape our digital future,” said Ms Chua.
The GSMA Board has 26 members, including 25 operator representatives from the world’s largest operator groups as well as smaller, independent operators with global representation. It represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide and companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and internet companies, as well as organisations in adjacent industry sectors.
