Singapore, 7 October 2018 – The Singtel Group’s inaugural esports league, the PVP Esports Championship, saw intense competition between 18 international teams at the Suntec City Convention Centre. Held from 5 to 7 October 2018, the sold out multi-title and regional competition saw teams battle it out for a prize pool of US$300,000 in popular mobile-based game Arena of Valour (AOV) and PC-game Defence of the Ancients 2 (DOTA 2).
After a thrilling competition, Team Secret from Europe emerged the winner and Fnatic from Europe the runner-up of DOTA 2. ALPHA X from Thailand lifted the trophy for AOV while Monster Shield from Taiwan came in second.
Team ALPHA X said, "All of us are happy with the win, which was hard to get. We met many people from different countries and cultures here. Everyone is nice and thank you to the crew for being there throughout the event. Thank you to the fans for supporting us!"
More than 3,000 fans attended the sold out three-day event. Fans tuned in through the Group’s content platforms and content partners Twitch, Facebook, eGG, Douyu and Huomao, delivered in seven languages – English, Bahasa Indonesia, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Tagalog and Thai.

The local qualifiers for AOV and DOTA 2 attracted more than 3,600 teams from across Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. 12 winning teams were then given the opportunity to pit their skills against six professional invited teams at the grand finals in Singapore. Amongst the invited teams were top DOTA 2 teams PSG.LGD (China) and Team Secret (Europe), who placed second and sixth respectively at The International 2018, DOTA 2’s largest international competition.
PVP Esports Championship also hosted the first-ever Singapore stop of the global Hearthstone Championship Tour. 128 professional players from across the globe competed for US$15,000 in prize money and earned points towards the Seasonal Playoffs for Season 3, with Australian Alex “NaviOOT” Ridley emerging the winner.
Singtel is the organiser and owner of the PVP Esports Championship and the content related to this event, which enables Singtel to distribute the event content globally. PVP Esports Championship was set up with leading esports industry players such as Razer, Blizzard, Garena and the Mineski Group through MET. The event is supported by Singapore Tourism Board, official media partner SPH and official social media partner TikTok. Sponsors include Aftershock, Huawei, Samsung, Scoot, Secretlab and 4Fingers.
