Chan Choy Har | 陈彩霞 (b. 1966, Singapore) is best recognised for her earlier works illustrating interior scenes such as living rooms, presented in an expressionistic style, inspired by Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh and Marc Chagall. Her later works take on an abstract style and usually portray landscapes and nature.
Chan has been an artist since 1986, and an art teacher since 1998. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from RMIT University in 1994 and a Master of Education (Art) from the National Institute of Education in 2010.
Chan has won awards for her art practice. These include an artist-in-residence programme at Gray's School of Art at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland (1992 to 1993), second prize at the Philippe Charriol Foundation Contemporary Art Competition (1994), Best Young Artist award at the Singapore Telecom’s Expressions in Art contest (1995) and the excellence award at the Dr Tan Tsze Chor Art Award from the Singapore Art Society (1997 and 2007).
Chan’s first solo exhibition was at the Aberdeen Arts Centre (1993, Scotland). She has participated actively in group exhibitions organised by the Singapore Art Society (1986 to 2007, Singapore and 1996, Taiwan) and the Modern Art Society Singapore (1989 to 2015). She has also shown with the Asian International Art Exhibition between 1995 and 2013, held in Indonesia, Thailand, Macau, China, Japan and South Korea.
Chan’s works have been collected by Singtel and other corporations.
