Lester Lee (b. 1964) uses a cartoon format of communications symbols and icons to create a random kaleidoscopic composition. The mosaic of images and text resembles graffiti drawings of the period. These include telephone keypads, paraphernalia for sending mail, envelopes, modes of transport, bicycles, aeroplanes and more. The busy composition suggests the cornucopia of media and methods that people use to connect. How these connections are important or of incidental quality are topics for consideration, as suggested in this painting.
Lester Lee won the MCI Art Competition in 1989 with this artwork, now in the Singtel collection. He has gone on to win a gold award in the UOB Painting of the Year competition (2013).
