Tee Kai Yin's abstract painting Secret Garden won a merit award in the Singapore Telecoms Expression in Art competition in 1995. The painting is composed of a black ground over which marks and drawings have been made with white pigments. It is painted on aluminium sheet. The marks on the painting surface allude to an abstracted garden landscape. These are also personal symbols that have emotional meaning to the artist which the perceptive viewer shares.

Tee Kai Yin won several merit awards in other art competitions in the mid 1990s to early 2000s. Another painting by Tee Kai Yin in the Singtel collection is HDB Metamorphosis (1997), the winning piece for Best Artist, Singapore Telecoms Expression in Art, 1997.
