Choo Keng Kwang is considered a master of realism, well-known for his oil paintings of city streets, and more so for his nature works on fauna and flora. This painting of koi, Carps, is presented as a view from above, capturing the dynamic movement of the fish in a shallow stream. The water is painted as clear and flowing, with delicate water plants and lotus leaves tickling the surface. Choo is evidently experienced in painting koi, especially compositions with nine fish, which are considered auspicious in local Chinese culture. These are amongst his most popular paintings, as well as his renditions of birds, with pigeons in particular.

Choo's contemporaries include Chieu Shuey Fook, Goh Beng Kwan, Tan Choo Kai, Tan Khim Ser and Thomas Yeo.

Other works by Choo Keng Kwang in the Singtel collection include Pigeons (1994) and Chinatown (1970).
