Vassily Kandinsky, Impression V (Parc), Collection of Centre Pompidou, Paris
The Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery at the National Gallery Singapore (NGS) opened with its first ever exhibition on 31 March 2016. The international exhibition, titled, “Reframing Modernism”, co-curated with the Centre Pompidou in Paris, showcased more than 200 iconic works by modern artists from Southeast Asia and Europe.
It was a rare chance to see works from famous European artists such as Pablo Picasso and Vassily Kandinsky featured alongside Southeast Asian artists such as Cheong Soo Pieng, Le Pho and many more.
The exhibition reframed the existing paradigm of how modernist painting is understood. Starting from individual artists' bodies of work, “Reframing Modernism” led visitors through an artistic-centric experience where they were free to explore and examine connections between different bodies of work based on common approaches, ways of working and conceptual orientations to modernism.
Prior to the opening of the exhibition, Singtel organised a preview for special guests.
