Support for the Arts

The Singtel Group has been a champion of the Singapore art scene and the company’s support for Singapore and regional art is anchored by its corporate art collection as well as contributions to the arts scene with donations to the National Gallery Singapore and the Singtel Waterfront Theatre.

Singtel’s commitment to the promotion of art and art appreciation in the region started back when it was the statutory board Singapore Telephone Board, where pioneer artist Cheong Soo Pieng was commissioned to paint a mural for the Board’s premises in 1959. Since then, the company continues to support both budding and established artists in Singapore as well as across the region, and has amassed a corporate art collection of nearly 200 works. Today, works by leading and emerging Singaporean and Southeast Asian artists are showcased through Singtel’s online gallery called the Singtel Art Project.

In 2015, Singtel extended its support of the arts scene and became a founding partner of the National Gallery Singapore with a contribution of S$20 million. The Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery at the Gallery showcases internationally renowned artworks alongside significant Southeast Asian art that is co-curated with renowned museums from around the world, and opened its first exhibition in March 2016.

Singtel’s support for the arts also made possible another exciting new Singapore arts venue – with a S$10 million donation to help fund the development of the Singtel Waterfront Theatre at Esplanade and expanded the company’s support beyond visual arts to include performing arts.
