Calla lilies are known to be a symbol of rebirth or new beginnings, with the white variety representing purity and innocence. These delicate and graceful flowers have a distinctive tubular shape with a pointed tip. Orion intently studied the form, highlights and shadows of the flower and gently worked the charcoal on paper to bring out the subtle nuances and elegance of the spathe. ​
