Samsung’s highly anticipated new additions to their flagship Galaxy S series of smartphones are finally here! Announced on 14 January, or about a month earlier than expected, the Galaxy S21 series comes in 3 flavours: the S21 5G, S21+ 5G, and S21 Ultra 5G.
As the names suggest, all three Galaxy S21 phones are 5G-capable and come with a bevy of cool new features and improvements. Read on to find out what they are:
Sharper, better screen
Of the three phones, the Galaxy S21 5G is the smallest with its 6.2-inch display. It is followed by the S21+ 5G with a 6.7-inch display, and the largest of the bunch being the S21 Ultra 5G with a 6.8-inch screen.
According to Samsung, all three phones feature a new intelligent display. Both the Galaxy S21 and S21+ 5G feature an edge-to-edge Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O display with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. This intelligent feature automatically adjusts the screen’s frame rate based on the content, giving you smoother scrolling and viewing.
Meanwhile, Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G makes a significant leap forward – its display supports 120Hz at Quad HD+ display resolution. That means you get fluid images with an even greater picture quality. The screen is also powered with the intelligent adaptive feature that automatically adjusts its refresh rate depending on how you use your phone, helping to reduce battery consumption.
All three phones sport screens are now more durable than before. They are constructed with Samsung’s Gorilla Glass Victus, their toughest glass ever, offering improved drop and scratch resistance compared to the previous S Series.

Shoot gorgeous, detailed pictures
Both the Galaxy S21 and S21+ 5G possess a triple rear camera system, giving you a wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lens all packed into one device. The 64MP Pro-grade camera lets you zoom-in up to 30x with its Hyper Detailed 30x Space Zoom feature. The improved Portrait Mode features an AI-powered camera that can accurately separate the subject from the background, along with virtual studio lighting and AI background effects, letting you take better snapshots and selfies.
While these two models have impressive cameras in their own right, the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is the power phone for you if you fancy yourself a serious mobile photographer. It sports four cameras at the back, among those a powerful 108MP sensor with a re-mosaic process for sharper details, and allows for 12-bit HDR that produces 64x more colours. All of its camera lenses can shoot in 4K at 60fps. It also supports capturing photos in the 12-bit RAW format, which gives you greater flexibility when editing your pictures. The 200% enhanced sensor noise reduction gives you clearer, brighter low-light shots as well.
The zoom function is even better on the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G with its Hyper-Detailed 100x Space Zoom feature, which makes use of new Dual-tele zoom lens system and dual pixel for fast/accurate zoom focusing. When you couple that with its AI-powered image stabiliser and advanced super resolution image processing, you get tripod-like stability for your zoom photos, helping you achieve greater clarity.

Be a cinematographer with 8K video recording
All three Galaxy S21 phones can capture footage in stunning 8K resolution, which means that videos you shoot will feature lots of detail and great colours. The improved 8K Video Snap feature also lets you take a snapshot of a frame in the video, turning it instantly into a high-res photo image of up to 33MP.
People who love capturing video on their phone will also like the new Director’s View feature, which lets you record video footage from multiple camera lenses at the same time. The Vlogger View also lets you capture footage from the front and rear cameras at once.

S Pen experience on the Galaxy S21 Ultra
People who like to use their phone as a notepad or sketchbook will be delighted to know that Samsung has brought the S Pen experience to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the first S Series device to sport this feature. The Galaxy S21 Ultra works with any S Pen from a Galaxy Note or Galaxy Tab. The S Pen can also be purchased separately on its own, or with a compatible case.
